3ivx

3ivx is a commercial software that supports playback of MPEG-4 video, MPEG-4 audio and the MP4 file format. It can be used for playback of the most diverse implementations of MPEG-4: for DivX and XviD, as well as for MPEG-4 implementations from Apple, Philips and others, for which the corresponding codecs must be provided.

3ivx consists of the three technologies video, audio and file format, which are anchored in the core and can be equipped with different front ends, which put themselves as shell around the core. The core communicates with the application via the front-end, which is supported by the front-end through a collection of tools and filters. Examples are the DirectShow filter, components of Quicktime and codecs for Video for Windows. 3ivx includes six different filters for encoding and playback of various audio and video files. The collection of filters can be bundled with various Windows programs, offering advantages with DirectShow and Video for Windows (VfW).
