8080 processor

8080 is an 8-bit microprocessor from Intel, which was introduced in 1974 as the successor to the 8008. It has a data word width of 8 bits and an addressing of 16 bits via which memories with 64 KB can be addressed. The 8080 had an instruction set of 56 instructions, was clocked at 2 MHz and had a cycle time of 2 µs. With 640,000 instructions per second (0.64 MIPS), it was well above the performance of the 8008.

The 8080, which represented LSI technology with 6,000 transistors and a structure width of 6 µm, was housed in a Dual Inline Package( DIP).

The 8080 was used in home computers.
