822 format

The 822 format is the current standard format for the headers of e-mails in TCP/ IP environments. The format is also called 822 message format and is specified in RFC 822, hence the name.

The structure of the 822 format is quite simple. It consists of the header, which comprises a few lines, the subject or subject and the message content, the message body. The individual blocks of information are separated by blank lines. All information is written in ASCII and is readable. Such an 822 message could look like this:

SUBJECT: Correction

TO: mustermann@company.com
