Apache

Apache is an open source software for web servers developed by the Apache Software Foundation. On such a HTTP server, online information and websites are provided as http services, which are retrieved on request by web browsers.

Apache server is the most widely used web server and works with Unix, Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, Netware, OpenBSD and some other operating systems. Apache servers can be functionally extended by additional modules. Such modules exist, among other things, for encryptingcommunication between the browser and the web server, for multiprocessing, for optimizing threads, for complex manipulation of HTTP header data, as a proxy server, or for managing dynamic web pages, whose management overhead can be reduced compared to static web pages by using scripting languages such as Hypertext Preprocessor( PHP), Ruby, or Perl.

Apache servers are configured as a combination of Linux, Apache software, the MySQLdatabase, and the Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) scripting language, which is abbreviated as LAMP. For interpreting Java applications, Apache servers can be extended with Tomcat to form an Apache Tomcat server.
