AppleTalk protocols are communication protocols and application-oriented basic services for the AppleMacintosh computer. The protocols were based on the OSI reference model, allowing access and extension to alternative protocols. AppleTalk supports Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI and Arcnet and can be run in conjunction with NetBIOS, TCP/IP, Network File System(NFS) and DECnet on a network. Almost all Macintosh computers andprintersinterface with LocalTalk, Apple's cabling system. Addressing on the network is independent of the user, and printers or other peripherals are addressed with logical names rather than a network address.
