AppleTalk session protocol (ASP)

The AppleTalk Session Protocol( ASP) used by Apple on the communication control layer is a communication protocol.

Sessions between clients and servers are established, managed and terminated via the AppleTalk Session Protocol. Via the sessions, the clients conduct the dialog with the servers.

The AppleTalk Session Protocol (ASP) supports secure data transport in AppleTalk networks and transmits commands in the correct order. ASP is an extension of the AppleTalk Transaction Protocol( ATP) and allows two processes to establish sessions and exchange transactions and commands.

The ASP protocol is based on one of several transport protocols, which in turn use the Datagram Delivery Protocol( DDP).
