D3 format
In contrast to the D1 format and the D2 format, the D3 digital video recording format works with ½" magnetic tapes.
Like D2, it digitizes the composite video signal FBAS and has a track width reduced to 18 µm.
The data is essentially the same as the D2 format, except that D3 uses a different cassette format and has a slightly larger storage capacity.
The D3 format, which can be played on D5 format tape drives, was developed by the Panasonic company.
