DLNA interoperability guideline

TheDLNA Interoperability Guidelines specify the functional blocks for the platform and software infrastructure to ensure interoperability between the various services. The aim is to unite services from consumer electronics with mobile, multifunctional terminals and PC technology.

For this purpose, DLNA has developed the Interoperability Guidelines, which are based on existing standards. These guidelines specify the file formats, media transport, transport protocols and network connections. The various technologies are taken into account: Wireless technologies with WLANs and Bluetooth, wired networks with Fast Ethernet, IP protocols, PC interfaces and compression formats.

DLNA Interoperability Guidelines

To ensure interoperability between products and services, the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) has specified several products and divided them into various product categories and classes. The proper functionality of these products is certified by DLNA.

The first product category, Home Network Device( HND), includes products that support the same media format and network connectivity.

The second product category, Mobile Handheld Devices( MHD), use the same system but have different file format and network connectivity requirements. And the third product category, those of Home Infrastructure Devices( HID), refer to the connection between the previous two categories.
