Ethernet in the first mile over copper (EFMC)
Ethernet in the First Mile( EFM) has several topologies that can be implemented as point-to-point or point-to-multipoint links over fiber and TP cable.
Ethernet in the First Mile over Copper (EFMC) is the copper-based topology that uses simple telephone cables, voice-grade cable( VG). There are two transmission techniques: 2Base- TL and 10Pass- TS. 2Base-TL is for further distances up to 2.7 km with data rates of at least 2 Mbit/s, and 10Pass-TS is a passband technique for distances up to 750 m and data rates of at least 10 Mbit/s.
The other EFM scenarios are Ethernet in the First Mile via Fiber( EFMF) and Ethernet in the First Mile using Passive Optical Network( EFMP). EFMF involves point-to-point connections and EFMP involves point-to-multipoint connections.
