Ethernet virtual private line (EVPL)
Several Ethernet services have been defined for Carrier Ethernet by the Metro Ethernet Forum( MEF): E-Line, E-Tree and E-LAN. E-Line can be offered by providers in two variants, the Ethernet Private Line( EPL) and the Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL).
Ethernet Virtual Private Line is a complement to Ethernet Private Line (EPL). EVPL provides service multiplexing at the subscriber network interface( UNI) in addition to the point-to-point services of EPL. Such a connection replaces the otherwise used point-to-point connection offrame relay or a permanent virtual circuit( PVC) in ATM.
