GNU object model environment (GNOME)
GNU Object Model Environment (GNOME) is a program for developing user-friendly desktops under GNU/ Linux, which was later extended by the GNOME Foundation for Unix and all Unix derivatives. A crucial aspect of Gnome is that it works exclusively with open source software.
Gnome is free software subject to the GNU General Public Licenses( GNU-GPL). Gnome can be programmed in the C++C++, Python, Perl, Java and C# programming languages. It provides developers with a high level of control over their desktops, software and data. The worldwide Gnome community is supported by many well-known companies such as Hewlett Packard, IBM, Novell, Red Hat, Motorola, Nokia and Sun Microsystems.
Compared to K-Desktop-Environment( KDE) so KDE has a higher affinity to the user interface ofWindows, whereas Gnome, depending on the configuration, is closer to Apple's Mac OS X.
