H.265

H.265 is the ITU-T standard for high-efficiency video compression, High Efficiency Video Coding( HEVC). It is a further development of the video codecH.264 and comparable VP9.

The H.265 standard was developed jointly by the Video Coding Experts Group( VCEG) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the MPEGworking group of the International Electrotechnical Commission( IEC). The H.265 standard is characterized by a high compression ratio, which is much higher than that of H.264, while maintaining the same playback quality. In addition, the image size is scalable between images with a resolution below VGA up to Ultra HDTV( UHDTV) with a resolution of 7,680 x 4,320 pixels.

H.265 video compression is used in Ultra HD Blu-ray, among other applications.
