The ITU-T standard H.242 of the International Telecommunication Union deals with the control of audiovisual and multimedia systems, such as video conferencing systems. The standard is used in the H.321 and H.322 standards for videoconferencing and describes the establishment and termination of connections between corresponding video terminals, with a data rate of up to 2 Mbps. The connection control specified in H.242 includes the exchange of characteristic values of the terminals and the codecs.
