HDMI Ethernet channel (HEC)

In the High Definition Multimedia Interface 1.4( HDMI 1.4) version, the HDMI Ethernet Channel (HEC) has been implemented.

The HEC channel, which can transmit 100 Mbps bidirectionally, is designed to reduce the cabling requirements for Internet-enabled entertainment devices deployed in home networks. All IP-based entertainment devices such as televisions, digitalvideorecorders(DVRs), set-top boxes or game consoles are supported by Ethernet via the High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), which makes interworking much easier.

Also, since the HEC channel is in the HDMI cable, no additional cabling is required. Whereas previously all IP-based devices had to be connected to the Internet individually, the HEC channel can supply several devices simultaneously via the HDMI cable that is present anyway.
