H.323 gateway

The H.323 gateways form the conference bridge for video conferences between systems with different standards, such as to the classic telephone network and also to non- protocol terminals. They translate the alias names of the terminals into IP addresses, convert the media formats, control the exchange of information and adapt the video and audio codecs. In addition, they are responsible for establishing and terminating the connection.
