IDE controller
The IDE controller, Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE), is the control device for the hard disk. It is a simple electronic device located on the motherboard or directly in the hard disk.
The IDE controller integrated in hard disk drives is tuned to the recording method of the hard disk. By default, Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE) on the hard disk supports 63 sectors, 16 magnetic heads and 1024 cylinders. Inhard disk drives, one sector comprises 512 bytes, which results in a maximum storage capacity of 504 MB for IDE recordings with 63 sectors and 1,024 cylinders.
Two IDE devices can be connected to an IDE controller per channel, i.e. two in the case of IDE with one channel; in contrast, four IDE devices can be connected to an EIDE controller, since it has two channels.
