IEEE 802.3 100Base-FX

The 100Base-FX Fast Ethernet variant is based on the FDDI( ISO 9324-3) standards. 100Base-FX uses gradient fiber with 50/125 µm or 62.5/125 µm for data transmission and ST connectors, SC connectors or MIC connectors for the connection technology. The SC connector is coded as duplex connector according to ANSI X3T9.5 LCF- PMD, the MIC connector must be coded as M connector.

Structure of the lower layers of Fast Ethernet networks

The network structure of 100Base-FX is star-shaped with a maximum segment length of 400 m, as with all other 100Base variants. If connections are implemented between two 100Base-FX bridges or switches, the length of the FO segment can be extended to 2,000 m. Transmission takes place in the second optical window at a wavelength of 1,310 nm. The data rate is 100 Mbit/s; 4B5B coding and Non Return to Zero Inverted( NRZ-I) are used as coding. The 100Base-FX interface is implemented as an SFP module.
