IEEE P2030

IEEE is standardizing smart grids under P2030. The long title of the standardization document is: "IEEE Guide for Smart Grid Interoperability of Energy Technology and Information Technology Operation with the Electric Power System( EPS), and End-use Applications and Loads".

The P2030 guide consists of three parts, 2030.1, 2030.2, and 2030.3, and provides the basis for interoperability in the areas of electric power technology and information technology. The goal is to achieve interoperability of smart grids.

It addresses addressing, functional performance and evaluation criteria, and applications and loads. Part 1 P2030.1, titled "Draft Guide for Electric-Sourced Transportation Infrastructure," is about benefits to manufacturers, power transmission, infrastructure development, and end users and electric vehicles. Part 1 will provide the basic knowledge for addressing terminology, methods, equipment, and planning requirements for power transmission and its impact on commercial and industrial systems for electric generation, power transmission, and power distribution.

P2030.2, entitled "Draft Guide for the Interoperability of Energy Storage Systems Integrated with the Electric Power Infrastructure," addresses the consistent implementation of energy storage systems. It deals with the dialog capability of different energy distribution systems and the combination of different energy infrastructures. And under 2030.3, titled "Standard for Test Procedures for Electric Energy Storage Equipment and Systems for Electric Power Systems Applications," it is about test procedures in the area of storage equipment for electric power systems.

Since the focus of previous energy networks was not on energy storage, 2030.3 focuses on the global use of distributed and intermittent renewable energy sources and their coupling with energy storage systems. P2030.3 describes test procedures that can be used toverify the compliance of energy storage equipment and systems.
