Performance deficiencies on the Internet have a negative impact on acceptance and user satisfaction. If response times exceed a certain time, dissatisfaction spreads, websites are accessed less frequently, webservices can no longer be used in the usual way, and business processes conducted via the web are impaired.

The limitations in Internet performance are due to the limited performance of common Internet protocols such as the TCP protocol or the Border Gateway Protocol( BGP), but also to congestion on the connection paths, packet loss and transmission bottlenecks. In addition, latency for dynamic content cannot be improved by caching.

Internet tuning is an approach to increase internet performance, improve latency, reduce packet loss rates and routing problems. Internet tuning starts with the transmission paths, it examines the congested connection paths in the last mile, access, wide area and core networks, and analyzes server performance during normal operation and peak load. Based on these findings, the user can improve performance by making changes to the infrastructure and configuration.
