Java database connectivity (JDBC)
Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) is the Java application programming interface( API) for databases, comparable to Open Database Connectivity( ODBC).
The LDBC interface is a generic interface that is independent of other database architectures. The JDBC interface can be used to execute SQL commands and communicate with SQL-based databases, and can also be used to access any database from Java programs. The JDBC interface is divided into an application-oriented and a driver-oriented level. The driver API establishes communication with other drivers.
JDBC is one of the database standards, along with Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and the Java Data Objects( JDO) framework.
