Java naming and directory interface (JNDI)

Through the Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI), Java programs have access to naming services and directory services such as Active Directory Service( ADS). These directories are often used to manage certain data within an organization and to connect various services to them. For example, address books and telephone lists in companies are often made available in this way so that they can be accessed from other application programs such as word processing or e-mail. Directories also often play a role in user authentication, for example via Java Authentication and Authorization Service( JAAS).
