K5 processor

The K5 is a fifth-generation microprocessor from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).

The 32-bit processor K5 was developed as a competitor to Intel's Pentium; it was characterized by better performance features and a cheaper price compared to the Pentium.

The K5 worked with clock frequencies between 80 MHz and 115 MHz, consisted of 4.3 million transistors and used Socket 5 as the CPU socket. It was replaced by its significantly improved successor, the K6, just one year after its introduction, which was in 1996.
