MeeGo

MeeGo is a mobile smartphone operating system that was created from Nokia's Maemo and Intel's Moblin. Version 1.0 of the core system was officially released in May 2010 after the collaboration between the two companies became official the previous year.

Available as open source, MeeGo is suitable for X86 processors, Atom process ors and ARM processors in smartphones, handhelds, netbooks, web-enabledTVs and vehicles. In addition to Intel and Nokia, IT companies such as Acer, Cisco and Novell support the MeeGo platform, as does the BMW Group with a reference platform for infotainment systems in vehicles. The WebTab, a tablet PC, is also equipped with MeeGo as its operating system. The MeeGo Core Software Platform consists of a Linux kernel, the Btrfs file system, the UI framework Qt from Nokia and a telephony and Bluetooth stack. If MeeGo is implemented in a netbook, it supports Google's Chrome web browser; in a handheld, the Fennec browser, the mobile version of Mozilla's Firefox, can be used.

The "MeeGo Netbook User Experience" provides instant access to synchronized calendars, tasks, appointments as well as updates in social networks. The merging of content from multiple communities allows all activities to be shown on one display.

The MeeGo SDK initially focused on software development for netbooks, followed by releases for touchscreen devices such as handhelds and tablet PCs. FutureIn Vehicle Infotainment( IVI) systems will enable new navigation features and networked computing and multimedia services in vehicles such as cars, trucks, planes and buses.

The "MeeGo Build Infrastructure" includes the MeeGo APIs with Qt and the MeeGo Touch UI Framework( MTF), which contains the homescreen, an application launcher and applications such as SMS sending, browser, contacts and photo viewer. A status bar displays the time, network connection, Bluetooth, 3G connections and battery level. Once the development of a MeeGo app is complete, it can be distributed to several application stores in RPM format.

MeeGo development was discontinued in the fall of 2011. The successor operating systems are Jolla from Jolla Ltd. and Tizen from the Linux Foundation.
