Mosaic

Mosaic was the first powerful implementation of a browser with a graphical user interface. This was developed by the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NSCA) at the University of Illinois and can process hypertext and hypermedia documents.

Hypermedia documentscontain icons for sound, image, and video that are activated with the cursor. To display the image, sound and video documents, special add-on programs to Mosaic are required, such as lview31.exe for displaying Graphics Interchange Format( GIF) and JPEG or mpegplay.exe for playing video sequences stored in MPEG.

Mosaic is a WWW client which, in addition to the many graphical possibilities, also has a history function and a management function for WWW document addresses.
