ODF alliance

The ODF Alliance for the promotion of the Open Document Format (ODF) was launched in spring 2006 and started with about 140 members from 30 countries. The ODF Alliance is primarily concerned with getting governments and public agencies to use the ODF format instead of Microsoft's document format, Office Open XML.

Since it is precisely in these institutions that the conversion of information and records from paper to electronic form is taking place, access to important information and documents will be challenged in the medium term. Since the standardized ODF format ensures access and exchange of information and documents regardless of the platform and applications, the ODF format lends itself as a future document format.

The ODF Alliance educates stakeholders in administration and IT about future- proof cross-platform document storage.
