OpenOffice

OpenOffice is an open source word processingprogram that works on all operating systems, including all Unix derivatives.

The OpenOffice format is based on the Extensible Markup Language(XML) and was developed by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards( OASIS). It has similar features to Microsoft's Office suite.

OpenOffice consists of several programs for word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database creation and formula editing. It is characterized by a high flexibility, since the file format can also be used for text transferto forms and databases. Moreover, Word, PowerPoint and Excel files can be imported. Also, files can be created in PDF file format.
