PQ code

The PQ code is entered when the premaster of an audio CD is created. PQ codes are used to identify the individual tracks and can be generated by all professional mastering recorders.

It is a content structure( TOC) via which the CD player controls the selected title.

The data of the PQ code are written into the data track or into the credits. In detail, the PQ codes describe the starting point of the track, the International Standard Recording Codes( ISRC), the European Article Number( EAN) and the Universal Product Code( UPC), the track name, the title of the piece of music, the number of tracks, the duration of a track, the total playing time, etc. In addition to the beginning of the piece, the end is also written in the PQ code.
