Python gimp toolkit (PyGTK)

PyGTK is a toolkit that supports the creation of graphical user interfaces( GUI) using the Pythonprogramming language. By its generally frequent use it belongs now to the scope of supply of Python. Possible further alternatives are among other things Tkinter, PyQt or wxPython.

Gimp Toolkit( GTK) was originally programmed as a GUI library for the graphics program Gimp and forms the basis for the Linux desktopGnome. In the meantime it is available under Windows as well as Mac OS X, but on the latter an X server must be installed to use it. With PyGTK, a mature connection to Python exists, which is actively being further developed. Many tools exist for designing interfaces with GTK that can also be used with Python, and there are countless open source programs that can serve as examples. Unfortunately, GTK does not fit visually one hundred percent into the standard interface under Windows and must also be installed later.

The possible applications range from simple graphical frontends for command line programs to complex applications with specially adapted control elements and many independent windows.
