SCART connector

The SCART interface was developed in the early 1980s by a consortium of European video and television equipment manufacturers as a standard connector for analog television and video technology and is used only in Europe.

The Scart interface is formed by the anti-twist Scart connector. It has a size of 43 mm x 13 mm and consists of 20 contact tongues. It is surrounded by a metallic shield, which is connected to ground. The analog input and output signals for video and audio are routed through the interface. These include inputs for composite video with FBAS, Y/C video with separate luminance and chrominance, component video with RGB, signal lines for the blanking signal and various audio inputs and outputs for stereo. The Scart connector is equipped with flat contacts and has a mechanical feature that prevents incorrect insertion.

SCART is not a standardized designation, which is why the designations Peritel connection or Euro- AV are also used. Since the interface was designed exclusively for analog signals, it no longer plays a role in digital TV.
