Unicable

Unicable is a single-cable system for antenna systems that has been standardized by the Comité Européen de Normalisation Electrotechnique( CENELEC). The idea is that existing antenna systems with multiple subscriber reception can be used for satellite TV without having to change the antenna cabling or replace the antenna cables. Unlike the single-cable concept, which transmits broadcast services received from different antennas to multiple subscribers via an antenna cable, the Unicable concept relies on satellite services and special LNB converters.

The Unicable concept has two different approaches, which can also be operated in parallel. In one approach, the intermediate frequency range from 950 MHz to 2.150 GHz is divided into several frequency bands and a separate broadcast service is transmitted over each individual frequency band. The user bands are generated by mixing satellite frequencies with oscillator frequencies in a Sat IF converter and have a frequency spacing of 116 MHz.

The second approach supports four subscribers who, each completely independent of the other, can make an individual program selection. Each participant has its own satellite receiver that supports Digital Satellite Equipment Control( DiSEqC). This means that control signals for the reception ranges, namely for low-band and high-band and the polarization of the received satellite signal, are transmitted from the receiver to the LNB converter or the multiswitch.
