V.44

V.44 is a compression protocol that can increase throughput by 10% to 120% over V.42bis, depending on the application.

The highest increase is achieved for Internet browsing, but the increase is also around 30% for e-mail and around 20% for file transfers.

For a typical web browsing connection, V.44 achieves an overall compression ratio of about 6:1, which means that the maximum data transfer rateswith V.90 and V.92 are 300 kbit/s.
