abort

  1. An abort is the premature, uncontrolled termination of a program combined with the return of control to the operating system. Such an abort can be triggered by exceptions, such as a faulty program or faulty program parts, the input of invalid values, an unauthorized arithmetic operation, the opening of a non-existent file, the input of invalid values, by faulty hardware or by the user. Abnormal terminations are indicated by the note Abnormal End (ABEND). Besides the uncontrolled termination there is also the temporary interruption or the premature termination.
