access point name (GPRS) (APN)

The Access Point Name (APN) is the name of an access point.

InGPRS networks, it is the access point to which the subscriber can establish a connection. The APN is only used within the GPRS network and can be used for data transmission, connection to a portal or for MultimediaMessaging Services( MMS).

So that the user does not have to log out and log in between the various APNs when using different services, for example e-mails, stock exchange messages or transactions, there is a concept with a higher- level, central APN via which all services can be controlled.
