advanced Mezzanin card (AMC)

Advanced Mezzanine Card(AMC) is a mezzanine standard for plug-on modules for ATCA plug-in cards. The AMC format (73.50 mm x 180.60 mm) offers a 20% larger surface area compared to the PMC module, resulting from the depth of 181 mm.

AMC cards are available in three height variants with 13.88 mm (compact), 18.96 mm (mid-size) and 28.85 mm (full-size). The AMC modules can be pulled out from the front cover of the carrier board without having to remove the carrier board from the system. They support hot- swap and are managed via the system management.

AMC modules are available as IO modules as well as computer modules and those for digitalsignal processing( DSP). Since eight AMC modules can be plugged onto an 8U carrier board like ATCA's, and each AMC module can be a processor module, it is possible to accommodate eight dedicated servers in a relatively small area.

Since up to eight AMC modules can be plugged onto an ATCA board, the maximum power consumption, which is limited to 200 W per ATCA board, must not exceed 25 W. AMC modules are also used in microTCA (ยต TCA).
