advanced low voltage technology (chip) (ALVT)

Advanced Low Voltage Technology (ALVT) is a further development of Low Voltage Technology(LVT) towards even lower supply voltages. The purpose of this development is to reduce the heat loss per logic, which increases disproportionately with the supply voltage. Due to the rapid increase in integration density, the cost ofheat dissipation is rising, and the battery operating time of mobile terminals and notebooks is also being reduced.

With the ALVT technology developed at the end of the 1990s, the supply voltage for TTL logics was reduced from the previous 5 V to 3.3 V (LVTTL) and for CMOS logics further to 2.3 V. The ALVT technology is a BiCMOS technology.

ALVT is a BiCMOS technology and was developed by Texas Instruments. Components built in ALVT technology are characterized by high switching speeds and low propagation delay, which is 3 ns, and by low power consumption. In addition, they can be used as 24-mA current drivers. The development goals were achieved through advances in manufacturing processes, complementary temperature characteristics of bipolar and CMOS technology, high impedances and lowest input capacitances.
