allocation

In general, allocation is understood to be an allotment or assignment. An allocation refers, as far as the subject of ITWissen.info's communications technology is concerned, to frequency allocation or the allocation of transmission frequencies and frequency bands and their use.

In the case of computers, the allocation is about priority procedures around algorithms with which the order in job processing and the processor power are allocated. First Come First Served( FCFS), Shortest Job First( SJF), Round Robin( RR) and Earliest Deadline First( EDF) are just a few of them. The same applies to the allocation of storage space or to file management, for which there are file allocation tables. The allocation of ports should also be mentioned in this context.

Protocols are also about allocation. For example, in the allocation of channels, transmission rates, bandwidth, as in the various procedures for bandwidth allocation or the allocation of data frames or slots.
