allotment

Frequency assignment is the authorization granted by a government institution to an operator to use a radio frequency or radio frequency spectrum on which the operator may operate its radio or mobile communications system under certain technical conditions.

In Germany, this task is performed by the Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Posts(RegTP). The frequency allocation specifies, among other things, the transmission power and modulation methods. Such frequency allocation is subject to a fixed period of use and is carried out in coordination with the frequency usage plan.

In broadcast transmission systems, such as digitalvideobroadcasting( DVB), frequency allocation involves a specific frequency spectrum that may be used for special services. In satellite communications, the satellite position can also be taken into account in the allocation.

Frequency allocation can relate to terrestrial broadcasts or to the transmission frequencies of telecommunications satellites; it can be granted for a regional area, a specific country or a special service.
