announced retransmission random access (satellite comm.) (ARRA)

Announced Retransmission Random Access (ARRA) originates from satellite communications.

Due to the extraordinarily long transit times of about 270 ms for satellite data links via GEO satellites, the application of the principles of terrestrial data communication is problematic. In particular, collisions on the data links are not reported quickly enough. To remedy this, back- channel reservations have been established to prevent other data streams from being involved in the collision. In this way, the effectiveness of a satellite data network is increased.
