An antistatic wrist strap is used in EPA workplaces, Electrostatic Protected Areas (EPA), and dissipates the electrostatic charges of people so that highly sensitive electronic components, assemblies or printed circuit boards are not damaged by electrostatic body discharges.
Antistatic wristbands have a conductive layer and are connected directly to protective ground via a cable. They are applied to the wrist and discharge the static charge of the human body towards the protective earth.
Many antistatic wristbands are evaluated by the Underwriter Laboratory( UL) and have set voltage limits. They are used both during assembly, testing or other work.
