automatic data retrieval (ADR)

Automatic Data Retrieval(ADR) is a process that is activated when updating or replacing disk drives in a disk array.

During automatic data retrieval, the controller captures updated or missing data from the disk array via fault tolerances. This is data from a faulty or replaced drive that is stored on the newly installed drive during automatic recovery. After the installation, the data set is exactly the same as the data set before the drive replacement.

Automatic data recovery can be activated and resynchronized as a working process whenever a new data set is read in.
