Automotive Dead Reckoning(ADR) is a navigation aid that significantly improves the positioning of global navigation systems( GNSS). Another is Untethered Dead Reckoning( UDR).

One of the problems encountered in navigation and position accuracy arises in urban areas when the motor vehicle performs location determination in urban canyons, in the shadow of high-rise buildings or in tunnels. Due to poor reception conditions and reflections of the satellite signals, such location determinations can be inaccurate.

The automotive dead reckoning technique can compensate for inaccuracies by comparing the current position with the last GNSS position and calculating a correction.
