background intelligent transfer service (HTTP) (BITS)

Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) transfers files using HTTP in the background without disturbing a logged-in user.

The BITS transfer takes place within the available, but unused bandwidth. If the server is not available, the transfer is interrupted and resumed when the server is reached.

The BITS service is part of Windows 2003 in version 1.5, but only in connection with InternetInformation Server( IIS) with the BITS server extension installed.
