backup as a service (BaaS)

Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) is comparable to Storage-as-a-Service( SaaS). In both cloud services, customer data is stored in the cloud of a backup service provider. In the SaaS concept, all data is stored in the cloud storage, including current data, whereas in the backup concept, only data for archiving and long-term storage is stored.

By replicating and hosting the customer's data through a cloud backup service provider, the customer saves on investments in the customer's own backup data center and can access his backup data at any time in the event of malfunctions and interruptions. The user is relatively flexible, always working with the latest technologies and does not need to worry about storage systems and arrays and their care and maintenance.

Conceptually, the archiving data can be stored in a public cloud of the storage provider, the user's own private cloud or a hybrid cloud.

The backup service provider's services can be ensured through hardware facilities and service level agreements( SLA). These include the storage and virtual machines( VM) that the provider must provide and that are continuously operated. As far as the service level agreements (SLA) are concerned, the downtime, resilience, recovery time objectives ( RTO) and recovery point objectives ( RPO) can be clearly defined in them and included in the customer's IT services.
