basic rate access (ISDN) (BRA)

Basic Rate Access (BRA) is one of two ISDN services, the other being Primary Rate Access (PRA).

With Basic Rate Access, the ISDN user has simultaneous access to two 64 kbit/s data channels via the Basic Rate Interface( BRI) using the existing telephone cables. Together, the two B channels with 64 kbit/s each and the D channel with 16 kbit/s (2B+D) achieve a data rate of 144 kbit/s.

BRA technology is used to increase the data rate of a normal ISDN connection.
