bias

The term bias is used in many cultural, media, linguistic, sociological and many other fields. In the context of ITWissen.info, bias stands for a bias voltage, for the underlaying of a signal or an input voltage with a DC voltage, for the premagnetization of magnets or magnetic materials. of an input voltage.

In general, bias can be characterized as a constant physical quantity that is used to underlie another physical quantity. For example, bias allows an electronic circuit to operate without distortion because the optimum operating point for the transistor or electron tube is achieved by backing up the signal with a DC voltage.

The same applies to other nonlinear characteristics such as those for magnetic materials. The premagnetization can shift the operating range into the range of magnetization where the characteristic curve of magnetic materials are linear. This is done when recording magnetic tapes.
