The term blade is not only applied to blade servers, but also to other systems expandable by computer boards, such as blade clients, blade PCs or blade workstations.
Blade concepts are rack systems that are adapted to requirements with plug-in computer boards. The individual plug-in systems are pushed into the slots provided in the rack or subrack and automatically connected to the supply voltage and the network. Blade systems are extremely flexible; they can be expanded at any time and do not require a new network connection.
Blade concepts are cost-efficient, energy-saving and offer a high level of security, as the data often remains within the server or data center.
