blu ray disc profile

The Blu-Ray Disc Association(BDA) has defined several BD profiles for the Blu-Ray disc. The original BD profile is 1.0, and there are BD profiles 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 5.0. Since October 2007, BD players must support BD profile 1.1.

BD profile 1 1 supports Picture in Picture( PiP), a video format in which a standard video and an HD video are processed in parallel and one format can be superimposed on the other, also known as picture-in-picture display. This technique can also be used to overlay commentary. Like video display, audio playback is accompanied by two audio tracks. The second audio track can be used for commentary or translation into another language. Furthermore, the BD profile 1.1 provides for a player memory of at least 256 megabytes( MB) for storing additional content and outsourced files.

The extended BD-Profile 2.0, which is also called BD-Live, provides for a player memory of at least 1 gigabyte( GB), in addition to an Ethernet connection via which content can be reloaded from the Internet.

BD-Profile 3.0 is designed for audio-only applications with a BD-Audio, and BD-Profile 5.0 for 3D playback. It can be used in home the aters for stereoscopic displays of Blu-Ray 3D
