Bluefin is a standardization initiative of the Storage Network Industry Association(SNIA) to simplify network management and ensure interoperability of heterogeneous storage area networks( SAN).

Bluefin was developed with the participation of well-known storage network vendor companies, incorporating the Common Information Model( CIM) and Web Based Enterprise Management(WBEM).

Bluefin provides a unified interface for SAN management through which resources can be reliably identified, classified and monitored. Today's solution approaches to the complex multivendor storage environments require software that can access and manage all data, wherever it resides in the storage network. The Bluefin specifications are expected to significantly improve the situation with regard to the interaction of software and hardware and to improve the management of all network components.
