broadband remote authentication server (BRAS)
A Broadband Authentication Server(BRAS) is a network component in a core network that is responsible for managing traffic volumes.
The BRAS server acts as a broadband routing and access server, providing transmission services between service providers and the last mile, i.e., up to the digital subscriber line access multiplexer( DSLAM) where the last mile begins. BRAS servers support aggregation between the metro and access networks. In addition, the handover point between the networks of the various network operators is used for policy management and determining the quality of service( QoS).
