broadcast satellite service (satellite comm.) (BSS)

Broadcast Satellite Services(BSS) refers to all broadcast satellite services such as the transmission of analog television, digital TV( DVB-S), digital audio broadcast( DAB) and analog radio.

Broadcast Satellite Services or Direct Broadcast Satellite Services( DBS) are transmitted from a larger ground station to the satellite, which sends the signals as a broadcast to the receiving stations. These may be larger receiving stations feeding the TV signals into cable distribution networks or large community antenna(GGA) systems, or small receiving facilities with satellite dishes for private reception.

BSS services are transmitted in the Ku band, which is between 14 GHz and 17.5 GHz.
